Cam site glossary: every term explained
Updated 2026-06-22
Live cam sites have a vocabulary all their own, and if you're new it can feel like everyone's speaking in code — C2C, tokens, Lush, VIP, spy. This glossary explains the terms you'll actually encounter, in plain English, so you always know what's on offer before you enter a room or spend a credit. We've grouped them by topic and kept the definitions practical rather than technical.
Show types
Open chat (free chat): The public room, free to watch, where anyone can type and tip and the model performs for everyone present. The best place to get a feel for a model before spending anything. Browse who's in open chat now.
Private show: A paid, one-on-one session billed by the minute, where you get the model's full attention and can request what you'd like.
Cam2cam (C2C): A private-show feature that lets you switch on your own webcam so the model can see you too, making the show two-way. Full details in our cam2cam guide.
VIP show: A scheduled group show that multiple members pay a fixed price to join. Cheaper per person than a private because the cost is shared.
Group show: Similar to VIP — several viewers chip in and watch the same show together at a reduced individual cost.
Spy show: Watching another member's ongoing private show at a reduced rate, usually without the ability to interact.
Ticket show: A show you buy a "ticket" to in advance; everyone who bought one watches when it begins.
Money and tipping
Credits / tokens: The in-site currency you buy in advance and spend on tips and private shows. Different sites use different names but the idea is the same. See how much cam shows cost.
Tip: A voluntary payment in open chat that rewards the model and gets her attention. The social currency of free chat.
Tip menu: A list a model posts showing what specific tip amounts unlock — for example, a particular action at a particular price.
Tip goal: A target amount the room is working toward together, often unlocking something when reached.
Per-minute rate: The amount a model charges for each minute of a private show, set by her and shown on her profile.
Discreet billing: Charging under a neutral, non-explicit descriptor so your statement doesn't reveal what was bought.
Toys and interactivity
Interactive toy: A device that vibrates in response to tips, letting viewers trigger reactions in real time. Browse interactive toy models.
Lush: A popular brand of interactive toy. "Lush on" usually means tips will trigger reactions.
Domi / OhMiBod: Other common interactive-toy brands you'll see referenced in rooms.
Vibe / pattern: A specific vibration setting an interactive toy can be sent, often tied to a tip amount on the menu.
Models and status
Model / performer / cam girl: The independent person streaming live from her room and setting her own prices and rules.
Online / live: Currently streaming and available to watch.
Away: Online but temporarily stepped away from the camera.
In private: Currently in a paid one-on-one show, so unavailable in open chat (though a spy show may be possible).
Offline: Not currently streaming. You can often still view her profile and add her to favourites for next time.
New model: A recently joined performer. Discover them on our new models page.
Rating: A score based on real viewer feedback; higher-rated models appear on the top rated page.
Quality and features
HD: High-definition video (typically 1080p) for a sharper picture. Browse HD cams.
Full HD / 4K: Even higher-resolution streams some models offer for maximum clarity.
Stream quality: A general indicator of how good a model's video is, affected by her camera and connection.
People and etiquette
Member / user: A viewer — that's you. You appear under a username; your real name is never shown.
Regular: A member who returns to a particular model often. Regulars usually get a warmer welcome.
Whale / king tipper: A member who tips very generously; some rooms recognise the top tipper with a badge or title.
Lurker: Someone who watches without chatting or tipping. Perfectly fine in open chat.
Mods: Moderators who help keep a model's room friendly and rule-abiding.
Room features and messaging
PM / private message / whisper: A direct message to the model or another user, sometimes requiring credits or a fan-club membership.
Fan club: A paid monthly membership to a specific model that unlocks perks like private messaging, exclusive content, or recognition in her room.
Snapshot / cam preview: A still thumbnail of a model's current stream, letting you see what's happening before you enter.
Room topic / status: A short line a model sets describing what's going on, a tip goal, or what she's offering.
Notify / follow: Choosing to be alerted when a particular model comes online. On JetCams you can save models to your favourites for the same purpose.
More money and tipping terms
Top tipper / king tipper: The member who has tipped the most in a session, often shown a badge or title.
Countdown: A tip goal displayed as a number counting down as tips arrive, unlocking something at zero.
Flash / quick show: A brief, lower-cost paid moment some models offer as an alternative to a full private.
Two-way audio: Being able to talk with the model by microphone, not just type — common in cam2cam.
Bundle: A pack of credits or tokens bought together, sometimes at a better effective rate.
People and roles
Cam model / camgirl / performer: Interchangeable terms for the person streaming; "performer" is the most neutral.
Studio: A business that provides some models with space, equipment and support; many models are fully independent instead.
Couple / duo: Two performers streaming together, common on lesbian and couples cams.
Verified: Confirmed by the platform as a real, of-age performer — a standard you should expect on any reputable site.
Whale: Slang for a member who spends very generously.
Content and category terms
Category / tag: A label used to browse models by type — ethnicity, age, hair, fetish and more.
Fetish: A broad category for kink, BDSM and specialist interests. Browse fetish cams.
Niche: A more specific interest or category, often with a smaller but dedicated audience.
SFW / NSFW: "Safe for work" and "not safe for work" — shorthand for whether content is explicit.
Technical and viewing terms
Buffering / lag: A brief pause or delay in the stream, usually down to connection speed on either end.
Resolution: The sharpness of the video — higher resolution (like 1080p HD) means a clearer picture.
Stream delay: A small lag between what the model does and what you see, normal for live video.
Mobile cam: A model streaming from a phone rather than a fixed webcam, often more casual and candid.
Account and safety terms
Username / handle: The name you choose for yourself; your real identity is never shown to models or other users.
Discreet billing: A neutral charge descriptor so your statement doesn't reveal what was bought. More in are cam sites safe?
Age verification: The checks a reputable platform runs to confirm performers — and often viewers — are over 18.
Geo-blocking: Restricting access to certain content or models by region, usually for legal reasons.
Show and performance terms
Striptease: A gradual reveal, often performed in open chat toward a tip goal.
Roleplay: Acting out a scenario or character at a viewer's request, common in private shows.
Dirty talk: Spoken or typed explicit conversation, frequently part of a private or cam2cam session.
Domme / Dom: A dominant performer, common in fetish rooms.
Sub: A submissive performer or role within BDSM-themed shows.
Edging: A slow, drawn-out style of show some models specialise in.
Platform and discovery terms
Featured / promoted: Models highlighted by the platform or a directory, often based on popularity or ratings.
Trending / popular: Models attracting a lot of attention right now. See our popular cams page.
Filter: A tool to narrow the grid by attributes like age, ethnicity, hair, price or HD.
Sort: Reordering models by rating, newest or price to surface what you want first.
Favourite: Saving a model so you can return to her quickly — find your saved models on the favourites page.
Search: Finding a specific performer by typing her name.
Anonymous viewing: Watching without an account or revealing personal details — standard before you choose to register.
Time zone: Because models stream worldwide, who's online changes through the day; checking at different hours surfaces new faces.
Open / private toggle: The control that switches you between free open chat and a paid one-on-one private show.
Camscore / popularity rank: A platform metric reflecting how a model is performing relative to others, which can influence how prominently she appears.
